PLC networks are often connected as subsystems to CIMS, large-scale distributed systems, enterprise networks, or interconnected with other PLCs.
The model structure of PLC equipment network is generally divided into three layers, namely physical layer, data link layer, and application layer. The network topology structure mainly includes the following types;
Master slave bus type subnet: The higher the bottom layer of the PLC network, the higher the real-time requirements. IC200ERM002 details that master-slave access control relies on the allocation of bus usage rights by the host, which is simple and easy to implement, and exhibits good real-time performance when there are few slaves. Therefore, the remote I/O of PLC and the underlying subnets, such as SINEC L1 and ORMON HOST Link networks, adopt a master-slave access control method. They are based on polling/answering, and the host sequentially polls the slaves to see if they are using the bus. For urgent tasks, cooperate to interrupt requests and insert them immediately. The host has priority and requests to send data directly for broadcasting.
Distributed token bus type subnet: The intermediate layer of the PLC network, such as Modbus, Modbus, OMRON's SYSMAC Link, etc., adopts a decentralized token bus access control method. This method has no distinction between master and slave in each station on the bus, with equal status. The allocation of bus usage rights is distributed to each station and jointly adjudicated. Each station on the bus forms a logical ring, where tokens flowing on the logical ring distribute the bus, and the station that obtains the token occupies the bus. ł
1.2 PLC Standard Generalization Protocol and Communication Protocol
PLC networks generally develop towards generalization and standardization in the high-level configuration of the network, usually using two configurations: MAP protocol or Ethernet protocol. The standardization and interconnection of their industrial LAN can be carried out and completed at the application layer (high-level). Except for the high-level layer, most other layers of the PLC network use their own protocols, and the physical and data link layers of each protocol are not significantly different, only at the application layer. Mainly manifested in the inconsistent types, meanings, codes, frame formats, and mailbox structures of command responses, making it impossible to generalize. The interface provided by the protocol to the user is relatively simple and clear. It is generally not difficult to program and complete communication between PLC products of the same protocol and series according to the instructions. However, it is very difficult to complete communication between PLCs configured with different protocols. Therefore, when designing PLC control systems, PLC products of the same manufacturer and series are generally selected to form a PLC network, and then managed to enter the enterprise network or CIMS at the high-level. Using a personal computer as the upper computer and several PLCs as the lower computers to form a network has been widely used in practice.
