Allen Bradley 1756-L72S is a GuardLogix 5570 controller and is part of the Logix5000 controller family. It is a ControlLogix controller with security control functions. This is a dual processor solution that must be used in conjunction with the 1756-L7SP security module to comply with SIL 3 or Cat. 4/PLe safety standards. The security partner controller is automatically configured, which is beneficial for individual projects. It has powerful motion processing capabilities and speed, as well as high-performance logic. It has a USB port for communication. It can support up to 500 controller connections. The 1756-L72S controller has 4MB user memory, 2MB security memory, and 0.98 MB I/O memory. It can support 128000 digital I/Os and 4000 analog I/Os. It consumes 5mA of current at 1.2V DC and 800mA of current at 5.1V DC. Power consumption is 2.5W, heat dissipation is 8.5BTU/hr, weight is 0.55lbs, isolation voltage is 30V (continuous), used for basic insulation. It can be installed in any slot of the ControlLogix 1756 chassis, or multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis. For secure communication, it uses a control network, device network, or Ethernet/IP network.
The 1756-L72S controller can control or monitor I/O through the backplane or I/O link. For controller diagnosis, it has a front display screen that provides runtime information. It works with energy storage modules, which means there is no need for lithium batteries. The 1GB (1784-SD1) secure digital card is pre installed as optional nonvolatile storage and can scale up to 2 GB (1784-SD2).
Allen Bradley 1756-L72S is a 5570 GuardLogix programmable automation controller (PAC). This controller has both standard and safety controller functions. This controller is the main controller used in conjunction with security partners with catalog numbers 1756-L7SP or 1756-L7SPK to achieve Safety Integrated Level (SIL) Category Level (CL) 3/Performance Level e (PLe)/Cat. 4. Rating. Unlike dedicated security controllers, when using 1756-L72S, the standard and security items are integrated in one file.
The 1756-L72S has high capacity standard memory and dedicated secure memory. These storage areas are equivalent to 4 megabytes of user memory, 2 megabytes of secure memory, 0.98 megabytes of I/O memory, and 1 gigabyte of non volatile memory, which is provided by the 1784-SD1 included with the controller. It allows the 1756-L72S to connect up to 128000 input and output (I/O) signals, which may consist of 128000 discrete I/Os and 4000 analog I/Os.
The 1756-L72S is an environmentally friendly controller because it is equipped with modern energy storage modules instead of traditional lithium batteries to retain random access memory (RAM). These memory storage modules include the 1756-ESMcap included with the controller; 1756-ESMNSE is a removable clock free time power backup, or 1756-ESMNRM is a non removable device that helps prevent USB connections and SD card usage to help protect the controller.
